{"id":22,"date":"2013-06-20T02:37:07","date_gmt":"2013-06-20T02:37:07","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.sharett.org\/?p=22"},"modified":"2013-06-20T02:47:17","modified_gmt":"2013-06-20T02:47:17","slug":"balance","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.sharett.org\/?p=22","title":{"rendered":"Balance"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>My friend Joe Edelman recently introduced me to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.meteor.com\">Meteor<\/a>, a javascript based web application framework.\u00a0 I decided a great way to learn it would be to write a tool to help me keep track of our household&#8217;s finances, with an eye towards bigger systems.<\/p>\n<p>So I created <a href=\"http:\/\/balance.sharett.org\">Balance<\/a>, an open source tool to keep track of shared finances for groups.\u00a0 You can create groups that are public, require approval to join or are invitation-only, and add transactions, from simple one to one payments to complicated reimbursements.\u00a0\u00a0 The program keeps a running total of who owes money or who is owed money.<\/p>\n<p>Before now I was spending quite a bit of time with complicated spreadsheets to determine who owed what in my household.\u00a0 It&#8217;s much simpler now.<\/p>\n<p>This is my first open source project, and I&#8217;m getting a handle on code repositories and such.\u00a0 I hope others can improve on it!\u00a0 Please let me know what you think.<\/p>\n<p>How is the picture above related?\u00a0 It&#8217;s describes how my brain sometimes feels when working on a project like this!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>My friend Joe Edelman recently introduced me to Meteor, a javascript based web application framework.\u00a0 I decided a great way to learn it would be to write a tool to help me keep track of our household&#8217;s finances, with an eye towards bigger systems.
